Voice Media Group is the largest group of metropolitan newsweeklies in the U.S., publishing papers in eleven of the country’s most vibrant cities. VMG was created in 2012 when a group of company executives purchased the publications from the previous owners, Village Voice Media Holdings. The company's namesake Village Voice in New York City was founded in 1955, and introduced the notion of free-form, high-spirited and passionate journalism into the public discourse. As the nation's first and largest alternative newsweekly, the Voice is the winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, and today maintains the same tradition of no-holds-barred reporting and cultural coverage that it first embraced more than fifty years ago.
Though many of the country's alternative weeklies continue to be known for their agenda-driven approach to news, VMG remains true to a different vision. VMG papers emphasize strong writing and solid reporting and are averse to protecting sacred cows. That commitment to journalistic fundamentals has only deepened over the years. As a result, while an increasing number of daily papers shorten stories and hire consultants to tell them what to print, VMG papers thrive by cultivating source networks, generating truly original story ideas, and digging into stories rather than skating across their surface.
Becoming part of the Voice Media Group team is a chance to join world class talent - individuals who produce professional content, design & develop innovative products, and deliver exception results for our advertisers, users, and partners.

Print is far from dead. And Voice Media Group's 1 million weekly circulation shows it. When it was founded by Dan Wolf, Ed Fancher and Norman Mailer in October of 1955, the Village Voice introduced free-form, high-spirited and passionate journalism into the public discourse. The Village Voice is alive and kicking, and that same spirit is in every one of Voice Media Group's eleven publications.
Our writers and editors produce some of the nation's finest investigative journalism, taking top honors in national award contests with their projects and special reports. Weekly restaurant sections are the go-to source for the latest local restaurant reviews, Best Of winners and listings. The nation's liveliest criticism can be found in our music sections, with interviews and in-depth features from the world of hip-hop, rock 'n' roll and DJ culture. And don't forget our calendar listings, the most comprehensive and informative way to plan your week.
Voice Media Group's eleven weekly newspapers and websites are iconic institutions in their communities, and are known for a patented mix of investigative reporting, magazine-style feature writing, thoughtful arts and culture coverage, and bare-knuckle blogging. Our reporters specialize in developing sources and digging deep to give readers in-depth analysis and smart perspective.
The eleven publications of Voice Media Group regularly break stories that make waves nationally. In January 2013, for example, Miami New Times published a major three-month investigation by managing editor Tim Elfrink revealing a connection between major-league baseball players and a controversial "anti-aging" clinic that was in the business of selling performance-enhancing drugs. Confidential clinic records obtained exclusively by Elfrink included the names of ballplayers such as New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez — and provided ample evidence that baseball's steroids problem is far from over.
Each year, Voice Media Group writers and editors compete in the nation's most prestigious journalism contests, going head-to-head against reporters from major websites, daily newspapers, and national magazines. In the past decade, VMG journalists have won more than 580 national awards, including the first Pulitzer Prize awarded for restaurant criticism, and more winners and finalists in the Livingston Awards for Young Journalists than any other news organization in America. The company also has dominated the weekly category of the Investigative Reporters and Editors contest, and has won more than thirty first-place awards from the National Association of Black Journalists.
Voice Media Group, the nation’s largest publisher of alternative newsweeklies and websites, regularly commissions long-form stories through its national features program. Here are some recent favorites:
Prosecutors team with debt collectors to terrorize consumers in ways both highly profitable and usually illegal.
Killing livelihoods and a $2.5 billion industry, the feds attack Internet gambling.
Bikram Choudhury battles for control of the yoga tradition he invented.
If Mitt Romney won't tell you which need to be closed, we will.
We pay competitive rates to writers with storytelling chops and proven experience in long-form journalism. For more information and to pitch a story, email us at features@voicemediagroup.com.
